Question #3: How much do the materials cost, and how can I use them?

Answer: All of the materials provided by BaptistHymnal.org are provided completely free of charge, and you may use them however you wish because all material provided by this site is 100% public domain content and not under any copyright restrictions whatsoever (meaning you do not have to get our permission or give us any attribution, etc).

Question #4: How did you come up with the song selections for the Psalter and the Hymnal?

Answer: The Psalter uses the selections from the 1912 Psalter which was originally published by the United Presbyterian Church. The Hymnal is a collection of 150 hymns that are commonly used throughout many Baptist churches today, and we made sure to select hymns that cover a variety of different topics. However, we also have an unlimited selections of other psalm and hymn arrangements that are not in the pre-packaged Psalter or Hymnal. If you would like to, you are able to use our freely-given resources to select and create your own custom songbook.

Question #5: What keys are the songs in? Are these the original keys?

Answer: We may have adjusted the keys that songs are in, in order to cater to the common vocal ranges in use today. Each song’s webpage will indicate the original key and, if we transposed it, the value of the transposed key it is in. You are free to transpose any song to a different key of your preference, instructions to do that can be found here.

Question #6: What information standards do you use?

Answer: When we provide information about a song (or tune), the information is sourced from either the source material that it was transcribed from (which is referenced) and/or we use information from Hymnary.org data. Sometimes, data points like (such as a tune’s name) may be different between the original source material (i.e. the 1912 Psalter) and the data on Hymnary.org, which means that you will see should match what is referenced on Hymnary.org.
